New Year’s Eve
An Evening with the Wainwrights featuring Loudon Wainwright, Lucy Wainwright Roche and Rufus Wainwright
Only on a blue moon (yes a real blue moon) could a family of musical geniuses come together on the Eccles Stage to ring in the New Year. It will be an extravagant affair as the Wainwrights usher in 2010 with spectacular, musical flourish. The patriarch, Loudon Wainwright III (known as the “New Dylan since his 1970 debut) masterfully blends folk, country, and rock with storytelling and humor. His dazzling showman-of-a son, Rufus Wainwright, has been affectionately referred to by Elton John as “the greatest songwriter on the planet” and praised by The New York Times for his "genuine originality." Wainwright has established himself as one of the great male vocalists and songwriters of his generation. And last but certainly not least, the sweet-voiced daughter, Lucy Wainwright Roche, adds her own, endearingly simple, folk-meets-pop style to the mix with a sound NPR describes as “sincere and raw, at times, recalling Joni Mitchell and Patti Griffin.” Bid 2009 farewell, and come celebrate 2010 with the exceptional music of these phenomenal singer-songwriters. Happy New Year!
