| Four hours. Twenty-four films. A New Way to See the World.” With a mission of bringing the world together through film, Pangea Day links diverse nations via satellite on Saturday, May 10. The worldwide broadcast of short films, live (via satellite) music and exceptional speakers begins at 11:30 a.m. at The Eccles Center.
Founded by award-winning filmmaker Jehane Noujam, Pangea Day is an opportunity for people across the planet to recognize what they share in common, rather than their differences. At 6 p.m. Greenwich Mean Time, viewers in Cairo, Kigali, London, Los Angeles, Mumbai, Rio de Janeiro and Park City will all discover the same stories, the same art, the same inspiration.
Chosen from 2,500 submissions, the 24 Pangea Day films were selected based on their ability “to inspire, transform and allow us to see the world through another person’s eyes.” In addition to these images and documented tales, participants will hear from visionary speakers and musicians including: Queen Noor of Jordan, CNN’s Christiane Amanpour, musician/activist Bob Geldof and Iranian rock phenomenon Hypernova.
“I think that the first step for world peace is for people to meet each other,” said Noujam in her acceptance speech at the TED (Technology, Entertainment & Design) Conference. She used her $100,000 grant to create Pangea Day in pursuit of bridging global differences through film.
“Pangea Day is a rare opportunity to travel around the world and slip into others’ experiences without leaving Park City,” explains PCPAF executive director Teri Orr. “As we struggle with conflict and barriers to crossing cultural and physical divides, this is a powerful time to come together.”
Pangea Day is also a jumping off point for community-building activities locally and around the world. For more information on Pangea Day, visit www.pangeaday.org.
